ACT NOW :: The Battle For Jerusalem Dear Friend of Israel, In the wake of Prime Minister Netanyahu's triumphed defense of the Jewish nation, in face-to-face meetings with President Obama and speeches before AIPAC and the US Congress, the battle for an undivided Jerusalem has intensified. During his Washington visit, the Palestinian Authority and much of the rest of the world - including the Obama Administration - objected to the issuances of permits to building apartments for Jews in Jerusalem. They presented Prime Minister Netanyahu's defense of a united Jerusalem as being a, "peace deal-breaker." As he has in the past, in an interview with One Jerusalem, Prime Minister Netanyahu educated his audiences about the reality that between the creation of the modern State of Israel (1948) until the unification of Jerusalem in 1967, Jews were expelled (many died) from the Old City of Jerusalem. When the Jordanians occupied the Old City in 1948, synagogues and Jewish cemeteries were destroyed, Torah scrolls burned. And under Muslim rule, the Christian population decreased by half. Netanyahu summed up his views this way: "And this is why Israel, and only Israel, can be trusted to ensure the freedom for all faiths in our central capital, the united city of Jerusalem." These words are a theme that has guided the mission of One Jerusalem from our founding in 2000. We spearheaded the campaign that stopped Ehud Barak from dividing Jerusalem with Yassar Arafat and we have built an international community of hundreds of thousands that stands ready to defend Jerusalem, whenever needed. As you know, President Obama's recent comments about Israel's borders set off a chain of events that demanded a dramatic response. President Obama proposed to endanger Israel and divide Jerusalem - giving Fatah and Hamas a base in the Jewish capital. Prime Minister Netanyahu gave Obama a strong "No." Now that Prime Minister Netanyahu is back in Israel, it is incumbent on us to increase our efforts in spreading his message for a secure Israel and a united Jerusalem.
