5 Celebrities That Stood Up for Israel in Gaza Conflict

During Operation Protective Edge, many celebrities decided to express their views on the Gaza conflict. While some supported Gaza, many others came out in support of Israel. Here is a wrap-up of some of the best pro-Israel celebrity comments and moments during Operation Protective Edge.

1. Gal Gadot

The Israeli model and actress spoke out in support of Israel on July 25 and denounced Hamas as “horrific” and “cowards.” The past Miss Israel also explained that she was sending her support to her fellow Israeli citizens during the crisis and to the soldiers protecting Israel during Operation Protective Edge. Gadot posted her messages of support on various social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

2. Jon Voight

The Academy Award winning actor and father of Angelina Jolie spoke out twice in support of Israel—once at a pro-Israel rally in Las Vegas and once in light of anti-Israel comments made by Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem. Voight called Cruz and Bardem “ignorant” and suggested that the couple “could incite anti-Semitism.” At the pro-Israel rally in Las Vegas, Voight called out President Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry for not doing enough to support Israel.

3. Jon Lovitz

The former SNL comedian took to Twitter on August 4 to explain his pro-Israel views and support Israel. Lovitz also criticized Hamas in his tweets and did not back away from the conflict despite coming under fire for his remarks. Lovitz also defended Israel on Twitter back in November 2012.

4. Joan Rivers

The famous Jewish comedienne spoke out twice in support of Israel—once to the paparazzi in Los Angeles and once to Israeli media. Joan Rivers made fun of Selena Gomez, who came out in support of Gaza, and asked if she even knew how to spell Palestinian. Rivers also explained that if another country were doing to the US what Hamas has done to Israel, the US would defend itself.

On July 21, shock jock Howard Stern came out in support of Israel when a caller called in to express anti-Israel opinions. Stern referred to the caller as a “mentally ill person” and explained that Israel has done no wrong. Stern declared, “Israel has done no wrong. If you’re anti-Israel you’re anti-America.”
