7 reported held as troops with bulldozer tear down illegal structures at Ramat Migron and Oz Zion
Security forces with a bulldozer demolished a building at the illegal Ramat Migron outpost late Wednesday night.
Two residents were detained during the operation.
The security forces were reported to have moved on to demolish illegal structures at the nearby Oz Zion outpost. Five residents — young women, according to initial reports — were detained there.
Ramat Migron is a small West Bank outpost. It is adjacent to the larger, well-known Migron outpost which is slated to be torn down and relocated by August 1.
Illegal structures at Ramat Migron have been demolished by security forces several times in recent years, and then rebuilt again by settlers.
On Tuesday, the Knesset Finance Committee approved a NIS 17 million plan to compensate the several dozen families who live at the main Migron outpost for resettling them elsewhere in the West Bank.
In March, the High Court of Justice rejected part of a deal brokered by MK Benny Begin (Likud), in which the government and settlers agreed to defer Migron’s demolition to 2015. The court determined that the settlement was built on private Palestinian land, and required that the several dozen families living there vacate their homes by August 1.
