Yes, we know that that whine is insufferable, and thank the good Lord that The Nanny is no longer on heavy rotation in syndication, but there was something undeniably appealing about the woman who embodied the title role. Appealing in a strange don't-mess-up-her-hair-or-nails Jewish American Princess fetish kind of way. For many of us, Fran Drescher represents everything wrong with Jewesses raised in Queens, and for some of us, that makes her oh so right. Sure, The Nanny eclipses everything in its surroundings, but let's not forget Drescher's likewise trashy appearances in Saturday Night Fever, Cadillac Man and the cult classics UHF and This is Spinal Tap.
